Couples Therapy
Often when a couple or family decide to come in for counseling, they have tried everything they know to help the relationship with little or no success. Maybe one of you is willing to work on the marriage and one of you is not. Maybe you both are making counseling a preventive measure and a way to enhance the positive aspects that are already present. My goal is to meet you where you are at and support you with the goals that you are seeking. Together we can explore aspects that you were not aware would be helpful. The fact that you want help is a sign that you want to fight for your relationship. I believe that ultimately, God is the only one who can provide us with the grace, strength, wisdom, & love that is needed to fight through difficult struggles.
Because sex is ultimately about intimacy, I believe that sex is automatically affected within a struggling relationship. Discussing it's impact is a important and natural part of therapy. For complex sexual issues, I can provide you excellent referrals of colleagues who are certified Christian sex therapists.
Maybe infidelity has rocked your relationship and betrayal feels impossible to get over. We can work through the layers of emotions that often hinders any hope for a healthy outcome.
If having a well researched assessment and plan of action for couples at all stages of togetherness sounds like a tool that would be helpful, I utilize either PREPARE-ENRICH ( www.prepare-enrich.com ) or principles from the Gottman's Relationship Checkup (https://checkup.gottman.com/). These sites offer couples the opportunity to take surveys at home that can be used by the therapist to quickly identify strengths and growth areas.
Maybe you are preparing for a marriage after a death or divorce. Because of the unique needs of step-families or blended families, I have completed advanced training in step-family therapy with Ron Deal, nationally known expert on this population which allows me to understand and treat the needs of these families. Let me show you the importance of this training.

Family Therapy
Being a marriage & family therapist, I look at relationship patterns more than the specifics of an issue which is helpful in finding the deeper aspects of a struggle. I believe that we cannot become who we are meant to be until we first belong in a healthy relationship which is why self-help books often fail to deliver the change we so long for. Facilitating a healthy relationship with you and your loved ones is my primary goal. Prepare-Enrich (www.prepare-enrich.com) has an excellent parenting assessment that identifies strengths and growth areas in the parenting role.
Having four children of my own, I have learned from experience how each child can be different & have unique needs. Parenting issues usually involve what is going on in the dynamics of the whole family like circumstances, relational patterns, or biological factors. Although I did my internship on the adolescent cottage at Ridgeview Hospital in Smyrna, GA and am trained to work with just adolescents struggling with severe issues, I have found that it takes the commitment of the whole family to create the best outcome. Because of that belief, I support adolescents with the participation of the family in therapy with them.
