Master of Arts in Marriage & Family Therapy
It is normal to feel nervous about trusting someone you do not really know with your deepest struggles. It is important that you find someone that you feel you can connect with. Therapy will be much more successful if my personality, experience, and skills fit well with your needs and expectations I hope I can help reduce some of those fears by sharing a bit about myself. Often we repeat the same efforts over and over expecting different results because we don't know what we don't know. In other words, we need an outside person to help us gain truths that we lack. Whether we understand it or not, we are not designed to journey through life alone and often just need to know that someone is there. If all we needed was wisdom, then self-help books could easily fit the bill. Since we need a combination of truth and connection, therapy can meet those needs. My goal is to help you meet your goals through greater self-discovery, deeper awareness of beliefs & behaviors from your past and present that are hindering true healing. I am Level 1 trained in a model called IFS (Internal Family Systems) by Dr. Dick Schwartz that has been shown to make this process simple and effective. My training in ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy) provides for quick resolution of traumas (see links to learn more about that). I am also a Christian counselor for those that want the safety of knowing that their faith values will be honored. |
My credentials, education, experience, and background:
Most of my life has been spent being a wife and mother. I married my husband 43 years ago and we have four children and six grandchildren. I received my BS in Psychology from North Georgia College & State University (now called North Georgia University) in Dahlonega, GA in 2010. From 2010 to 2014, I attended Richmont Graduate University (RGU) in Atlanta and received my Master's in Marriage & Family Therapy. This degree added extra classes focused on marriage & family to the required classes for a Master's in Professional Counseling. My training at Richmont (richmont.edu) provided me with skills to provide a Christ centered approach if this is important to you. I also have training in Perinatal Mood disorders from Postpartum Support International. I am on referral lists for North Point Community Church, Cross Church, Focus on the Family, and Postpartum Support International. You can find me in Cumming, GA at Beyond Today Counseling. I am also able to provide virtual services to anyone in the state of GA. Hopefully one of these options will serve your needs. Here is a map to my Cumming location:
